Three Sisters Mountain Village Announces Buffer
Conservation Easement Agreement

Calgary, AB (July 10, 2007) Three Sisters Mountain Village (TSMV) has announced the signing of the long awaited buffer conservation easement agreement by TSMV and the Town of Canmore. The buffer easement is one of the recommendations made in the 2002 “Golder Report” and the 2004 Resort Centre Area Structure Plan. As part of the Golder recommendations, TSMV and the Province entered into a conservation easement in 2005 conserving some 102 ha of TSMV lands to facilitate wildlife movement through the area. Today approximately 40% of the Resort Centre Area Structure Plan is dedicated to wildlife corridor. The buffer easement is located on the southern perimeter of the resort lands and is comprised of an area 35 metres wide and 2.8 km long. The buffer is designed to add to the effective width of the adjacent “long valley corridor” in conjunction with 87 ha of golf course lands presently under construction near the resort.

“Preserving lands for wildlife is part of TSMV’s sustainability practices. Three Sisters is extremely pleased to have completed the buffer easement agreement with the Town”, said Petra Wallace, Acting President for TSMV. “This is a great benefit to the wildlife in the Bow Valley and the community of Canmore. TSMV understands the value that a diverse wildlife population brings to maintaining the eco-diversity of the Bow Valley. Setting aside lands for wildlife corridors is protecting the future of these species in the eastern slope region of Alberta. We are proud of our contribution”, notes Wallace.
